Kelly Cramer
Hi! I've been working at RUP since 2013 and i'm so excited to be a part of this amazing school and department. I teach English 10, English 10 Honors, Leadership, and AP Language and Composition. I believe that education, at its best, opens doors for us and within us.
The mission of Roseland University Prep, to offer students a small learning community with the promise to help support high school graduation and preparation for college, is one that has shaped my desire to become an educator. In the fall of 2006, I volunteered in Kibera, a large slum in Nairobi, Kenya, and spent my time at the orphanage teaching English. This experience, instilled in me the belief that all people deserve the right to an education and encouraged me to pursue teaching at home, particularly in environments that are diversely populated. After I returned from Kenya, I completed my lower division units at the Santa Rosa Junior College and then received my B.A. as an English Single-Subject Preparation major at Sonoma State in December 2010. Since returning to school in 2007. I received my Single Subject Teaching Credential in English Language Arts in 2012. I previously taught English and was the AVID coordinator at Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park.
I believe that every student has a story to tell. This is a very basic conviction, but one that I view is an essential conviction for the teaching profession. English Language Arts Education provides students with the tools to both voice their vast personal histories and overcome the obstacles that may have prevented them from doing so in the past. As a teacher, I take pride in valuing the student as an individual, with their own experience, culture, and community.
